Razer has been launching a lot of new products lately. Within the last month, they launched 2 new headsets. One called Razer Ifrit dedicated for streamers and broadcasters. Another one is Razer Nari for gamers. Razer tends to give their headsets’ names by sea-creature such as Kraken, Hammerhead, Thresher. Nari is probably named from a spotted eagle ray fish. There is a new hardware inside this wireless gaming headset, it is haptic feedback made by Lofelt. Razer called it Hypersense.
Razer Nari has haptic feedback that will be triggered automatically by Razer’s Synapse 3 software. How this work is when the sound reached a certain frequency from 20Hz up to 20,000Hz, it will trigger the haptic feedback based on that. It is cool and also make gaming feels realistic. However when you played something like Overwatch or basically a game with a lot of combat moment. It will vibrate a lot and make you feel uncomfortable instead. If you play a game like PUBG or Fortnite where the combat happened only for a short amount of time, it will be great.
Best of both wired and wireless worlds
Razer Nari has 3 variants, Nari Essential, Nari, and Nari Ultimate. All supports both wired and wireless connection. If you are a gamer, you will assume wireless headphone will have input delay or input lag. Fortunately, Razer Nari uses 2.4Ghz wireless to decrease this lag problem. If you just want this feature, you can choose Razer Nari Essential but keep in mind there will be no Hypersense and Chroma lighting for this.
Razer Nari, in my opinion, is the best choice except you have extra cash lying around. It has Chroma lighting and a retractable microphone. Furthermore for a gaming headset, the price is not too bad. You will not be getting the haptic feedback for more immersive gaming feedback though, the main selling point of this headset.
Razer Nari Ultimate is the star of the show. It has everything that I have mentioned above. Hypersense, Chroma lighting, and a retractable microphone. If you have enough cash, I will suggest you this variant. If you feel the Hypersense is too overwhelming, you can also disable it in Synapse software. This variant might cost you almost 5,890 THB / IDR 3,000,000 for a gaming headphone. It has 3.5mm jack for wired connection on all variants, so you can use it with almost all device that still has a headphone jack.
All of the 3 variants also certified for THX spatial audio. Razer claims that it is beyond the 7.1 surround sound. They said that it will be simulating 360° sound shpere around you for more accuracy and precision. I have not tested this yet. I will update you guys how it does compare to traditional 7.1 surround sound, after I have this headset on my hands.
Razer Nari does not nail it all, but worth to be considered
If you are using this headphone wirelessly, you have to be limited by the battery life. With the Hypersense and Chroma lighting turned on, you will get 8 hours of battery life. It is enough for gaming the whole day. However, if you forget to charge it every day after you played a game then you have to use the wired and no Hypersense and Chroma lighting anymore. This means you have an additional device to get plugged in overnight every day. If you played without those 2 features, you will get 24 hours of battery life which is pretty solid.
Another complaint is this headset does not have active noise-cancellation like the one in Razer Kraken. I have been using Kraken for a long time and I am a big fan of this feature. If you play in a noisy environment, it will still pick up your voice clearly. However, with the Nari, your friends will hear some background noise. It is not that obvious but it is just me nitpicking about this.
I have a hard time to recommend this to anyone. Hypersense is still in the early phase of a product but it is a great concept of how to make the game more immersive. But microphone for me is the essential part of a headset. For now, I will be sticking with my Kraken. On the other note, if you like to buy a wireless gaming headset, Razer Nari might give you the best choice. It also has 3 variants that can be adjusted according to your budget.
